摘要:
Limiting the rise in global mean temperatures, in accordance with the Paris Agreement, requires a progressive reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and a continued reliance on large, uncharacterized terrestrial carbon sinks. The sparseness of ground-based measurements has precluded verification that these terrestrial ecosystems are a net annual source or sink of atmospheric CO2. My presentation will focus on observations of atmospheric CO2 collected by purpose-built satellite instruments. I will present major new findings that describe previously uncharacterized sources and sinks of atmospheric CO2, which have implications for future research programmes.
