摘要:
Land surface modeling covers biophysical, biogeochemical, ecosystem, and hydrological processes. The challenge posed by global climate variability and change research since the 1970s has promoted the development of land surface processes modeling, which has evolved from a sub-branch of micro-meteorology, biology, and ecology that only dealt with small scale phenomena to become an important component in Earth system modeling and in climate and environmental science. The land surfaces processes are extremely complex and involve numerous feedbacks. Our parametrizations only focus on the aspects that are significant to the land/atmosphere/ocean interactions at regional and global scales. This present uses the Simplified Simple Biosphere Model (SSiB) as a prototype to present the development of five generations of land surface models: 1st generation model works on the energy and water balance; 2nd generation includes the photosynthesis processes for the carbon cycle over terrestrial surface; 3rd generation focus on cryosphere processes: snow, frozen soil, and glaciers; fourth generation includes the ecosystem based on the carbon balance; 5th generation imposes the nitrogen limitation on the carbon flux and ecosystem growth. These land models are all design for the global and regional modeling studies. This present will briefly illustrate the remote effect of land surface processes, such as on ENSO. The GEWEX new Initiative “Impact of initialized land temperature and snowpack on subseasonal to seasonal prediction (LS4P)” will also be briefly reported. Its first phase experiment focuses on how spring land surface/subsurface temperature over Tibetan Plateau affects the global summer precipitation, especially droughts/floods.
